No One On Earth by Jennifer Loring

No One on Earth
A male/male Sci-Fi romance novella
By Jennifer Loring

Erukkass’ people, a species of interdimensional aliens, have been observing Earth and interacting with humans for so many centuries that some Native American tribes believe their ancestors originated from the stars. After his lover passed away in what appears to be a medical accident, Erukkass accepts a scientific mission… but not for the reasons his government expects. He has located his beloved on another timeline, in another universe—ours—and he will not leave without him.

Jon, a psychic since childhood, has never felt at home in the world, even less so after his lover died on Winter Solstice a year ago. Since his abilities failed him when he needed them most, he turns to alcohol and rejects his family’s assertion that he is a Star Child—an alien/human hybrid. When Jon’s sister suggests he should look into the legend of Handsome Fellow, Jon decides that if he cannot find happiness himself, he will bring it to others.

Jon returns home from work one evening to find a gift of his own—a strange young man waiting for him. Erukkass unveils one stunning revelation after another, including the truth behind his lover’s death and the nature of time itself. Can he and Jon forge a future together, or will two timelines that have always intersected, no matter when or where, finally be forced to diverge?

Excerpt:

An unladylike oof left Abigail as she began to fall to the floor only to be caught around the waist by a strong pair of arms. Her eyes shot up to her savior and the reason behind her fall, Abigail was instantly beguiled. For the first time in her life, it was she who was bespelled.

Blue eyes as deep and dark as sapphires gleamed down at her in impatience. A strong jaw clenched tight, held kissable lips that frowned at her. If the face wasn't enough to enchant her, the full head of black, silk hair that hinted of blue in the light made her hands itch to see how soft it actually was. It was enough to make anyone fall under his spell.

"Oh, good catch." Mandy watched in amusement, gesturing toward the god-like creature still holding Abigail in his arms. "This is Sebastian Storm, the CEO of Midnight Pharmaceutical and your new boss."

This was her boss? Abigail's eyes turned back to the man holding her in his arms. This glorious specimen of a man was going to be the one she answered to every day for the foreseeable future?

Any other time she would be thrilled to have any kind of attention from someone like him. Not only was he gorgeous but he hadn't even said a word and his presence demanded all of her attention. This was a man that got what he wanted, no questions asked. Thoughts of him commanding her in the bedroom seeped into her mind before she could help it, and she blushed.

“Was there something you needed, Mr. Storm?” Mandy asked the stoic man still holding onto Abigail’s waist.

“Yes, I was wondering how long I would have to wait for a new secretary. Things are beginning to pile up, and Lisa cannot keep doing two jobs, she’s hardly proficient in the one she has.”

If Abigail hadn’t already been on the verge of melting into the floor, the sound of his voice would have done it. It made her think of warm silk covered in the best chocolate; the hint of Hispanic heritage in his accent added a spicy edge to it. It was a voice she wanted to wrap around herself and savor.

"Well, you are in luck. It just so happens that this is Abigail Blanchard, your new night secretary."

At the introduction, Sebastian instantly dropped his hands from around her waist, leaving Abigail cold from where his arms had touched her. He stepped back from her, clearing his throat as he straightened the cuffs of his suit. His eyes went from curious to hard in an instant. All thoughts of this man ever embracing her for real were dashed from her mind.

Saddened by the thought, Abigail pushed it to the back of her mind as she realized what Mandy had just said. "Night secretary?"

Mandy nodded her head, her lips curving down. "Yes, the position you applied for was for Mr. Storm's nighttime secretary. Midnight Pharmaceutical is the only ever twenty-four-hour research and development facility.” Her brow crinkled as she glanced down at the papers in front of her. “I apologize, I thought you knew or I would have gone back over it in the interview."

"No, no." Abigail quickly jumped in, not wanting to look any more foolish in front of her new boss than she already did. "I am the one who should apologize. I remember now. It must have just slipped my mind from all the excitement."

"Well, it can be a little overwhelming at first," Mandy reassured her with a pat of her hand. "Midnight is like no other company you have ever worked for or ever will. We are ferociously loyal and we rarely have to hire new employees. Your position opening up was a surprise to us all. The last secretary went on maternity leave and suddenly decided not to come back to work. Hopefully, you will love it here as much as the rest of us and we won't have to hire someone else for a decade or so."

Abigail nodded her head politely. "Oh, don't worry, I don't plan on having children anytime soon. I think even the prospect of a boyfriend would be required first." Even as the words came out of her mouth, she felt herself freeze up. What the hell was she saying? Way to let them know just how pathetic she really was.

Internally, she was smacking herself over and over again but her inner torture was halted by a kind of choking sound coming from Sebastian. Jerking her attention back to her new boss, her eyes narrowed. From the slight gleam in his eyes, he was laughing at her.

"Welcome to Midnight, Miss Blanchard." The way he said her name in a deep accent pulled things low inside of her, and just like that, her fantasies of being bossed around by the wonderful man with the sinful voice were back in full swing.

“I had a feeling I’d see you again,” the voice called.
Dina looked around the wooded area, feeling confused for a moment. It seemed familiar. Across the marsh, Liam was leaning against a tree, casually dressed, hair slightly less shaggy than it had been last time, hands shoved in his skinny jeans. A light mist lingered over the grass, a taste of salt in the air. How did she get here?
“What?”
“Didn’t think it would be this soon,” he replied with a shrug.
The Gut surrounded her. She didn’t remember coming here, yet she was in the Bay Hook. Solid ground beneath her feet and the stench she breathed in, all real. “Why, uh . . . did you come back?”
“The real question is why did you call me here?”
“What are you talking about? You were already here, and I didn’t call. I don’t even have your number.”
“Want it?” he asked, smirking, then shook his head. “No, wait . . . oh. Uninhibited speech, foggy backdrop, extra flirty. I get it.”
“Get what?”
“We’re dreaming. You’re asleep right?”
“No,” she spat, spreading her arms, twisting in place. She pulled a cattail-punk out of the ground and shook it at him. “We’re in the Hook, hello, don’t you see the trees? Can’t you smell the marsh?”
“You must have been thinking about me, which is normal, frankly, given the circumstances. But how the hell are you keeping me here?”
“I’m not doing anything.”
“Dina, did both your parents have psionic abilities?”
“Only my father, why?”
“Curious,” he said, moving toward her, gray eyes sweeping up and down. “What about his parents, either of them?”
“I don’t know. What does it matter?”
“People don’t normally share dreams. You’re strong—”
“Why does everyone keep saying that?” Dina threw her hands up in the air and walked away. “Who cares if I am or not? There’s some dude out there burning up people, and I don’t have time to tramp around the swamp with E.T.”
“What did you say?”
“Nothing. Doesn’t matter. I’m outta here.”
“Wait, Dina,” he said, catching up and surpassing her. He grabbed both her arms to stop her. “You really are dreaming.”
Everything around her was too real to be a dream. She felt the pressure of his fingers, even the sinking feeling of her feet on the soft ground. “So this isn’t the Gut, it’s a dream? Right, and you’re sharing it with me, sure.”
“You’re amazing!” He laughed boyishly. “Even after all you’ve seen, you’re still questioning everything.”
“Then prove it to me. Call me, here’s my number,” she said, mentally sending the digits to his head.
Liam smiled at her. A sweet, sincere smile that made her smile back before shrugging.
“Dina—”
Her eyes popped open. The ceiling of her bedroom stared back. “Oh, what the hell?”
Dina sat up, brow furrowed. She reached toward the nightstand for her phone. Was it going to ring? It had felt as if she had been there, standing in the grass with Liam. She shut her eyes, trying to bring the images back, but they were already fading.
Had she just shared a dream with Liam?

Ripple Effect (Episode 2) by Keri Lake

Coming March 10th

EPISODE TWO: As a calculated assassin, Ripley thrives on always being in control. But when the woman he’s sworn to kill makes an offer he can’t refuse, his control is what he risks losing most.

Ripley

They call me RIP.
I’m a killer. A murderer. A psychopath.
In the eyes of the righteous, I’m a monster, born of sin and depravity.
I want to protect her, but I’m not a good man.
I want to love her, but I no longer feel.
She gets under my skin, though, and has awakened something inside of me.
Something I’d kill for.
I’m not her savior—not even close. In fact, I’m worse than the hell she’s already suffered.
I’m her vengeance. Tit for tat, as they say.
And if she’s not careful, I’ll be her ruin.

Dylan

For months, I’ve watched him.
I’ve fantasized him as my savior, my lover. My ticket out of the hell I’ve lived in for the last six years.
I never dreamed he’d be my nightmare.
Had I known what he really is, I’d have never gotten in the car that night, but life is full of cause and effect.
And sometimes the choice on offer isn’t a choice at all.
It’s the result of something already in motion, and we’re merely left to survive the ripple effect.

*This is an erotic suspense/erotic romance not recommended for readers under the age of 18 due to graphic violence and sex.

Drip.  Drip.  Drip.
My mind fights the all-consuming blackness closing in on me as I lay on the thin mattress whose springs poke into my back.  The beams above me shiver with dust that falls on my face every time he walks overhead. Chains beat against the cement wall I’m tethered to with every tremble that wracks my body.
Drip.  Drip.  Drip.
Somewhere water leaks an incessant pounding in my skull, and I count every drop.  Six hundred thirty-eight.  Six hundred thirty-nine.  Six hundred forty.  A cold, moldy scent invades my nose, and the cough that rattles my chest turns into a gag, staving off the impending black hole I’m being sucked inside.
He stole my pills, and what feels like shards of broken glass rolling inside of my stomach keep me from falling asleep.  Not that I want to sleep.  Not that I could.  But I need to, because the pain is too much.  It claws my insides like a beast, desperate for escape, demanding more of the sweet venom, the nothingness that keeps it tucked deep inside of me.  Muscle spasms create a line of tension through my body, so taut, I feel like my limbs will snap away.
“Help me!  Fucking help me!”  My words bounce back at me from the walls, all hoarse and scratchy as though I’ve been screaming for days.  Have I?  I’ve blacked out a few times, only to wake to that dripping noise and the incessant pain.
I’m sweating in spite of the frigid tendrils that snake beneath my skin like frost crystals.  My body shivers and sickness twists my insides into a nauseating roil, threatening to climb my throat any second.
I need my pills.
“Please!”  I turn my head in time to expel the bile shooting up my throat.  Fire trails behind it as the acids burn my nostrils with another heave.  Over and over, I choke, head slung awkwardly to the side as the fluids leak down my cheek.  A coughing fit steals my next breath and another round of bile splashes on the floor somewhere beside me.
An ache throbs in my skull as I lay back onto the bed and the churning in my stomach intensifies.  The sensation of bugs scampering across my arms jerks my muscles, and I shiver at the crawling of my skin.  I cry out, kicking against my binds.  “Get off of me! Get off!”  It doesn’t go away, though.  It intensifies, a nightmare come to life, and I’m certain there are spider legs beating against my flesh, digging, attempting to burrow themselves into my bones.  “Get off of me!  Oh God, get them off of me!”
Urgency tugs at my gut.  I need to use the bathroom more than I ever have and the panic sends me kicking and screaming.  Bloating in my stomach balloons and the pressure to release has me arching up off the mattress.  No, no, no.  Please not this.
I’m going to soil the goddamn bed and be forced to sleep in my own filth.
Everything flicks to blackness.
In dreams, I’m carried into a bathroom, my whole body quaking and jerking.  I want to get away, but comfort blankets me in the warmth of the stranger’s arms and the heat of his skin as I lay against his solid chest.  A harsh and blinding light beats down on me.  Focusing through the glare, I stare at a set of angel wings inked across his chest and a crisp orange scent that is both delicious and nauseating overwhelms my senses.  My stomach feels light when he sets me down and the heat washes over me in waves of bliss.  Soft cotton trails down my temple as he wipes a washcloth over my face.
He pushes the wet strands of hair from my eyes, and my breathing calms, as I stare into the multi-colored eyes of a monster.
